Thank You to Special Patrons!
The Library would like to thank all those who have made contributions recently. Your generosity is appreciated!

Gift Books were donated by Carolyn Freeman, Henry Strom, David Richardson, and George Scheer.

A generous donation was made from the Reva Paley Youth Book Fund.

A Big Thanks!
Thank you for your generous support, Friends’ members!

The Friends of the Portland Library provided programming for all ages throughout the summer. The Friends group continued to provide passes that allow free or discounted admission to many regional attractions.

And a thank-you is extended to all who
purchased books during the Books for the Beach sale and to those who have donated items to the Friends.

Gifting Your Community

Please consider gifting your community by adopting a book at your library for all to enjoy.

It’s easy! Tell us what title you would like to add to the library’s collection or consult our wish lists.

When the book arrives, we will notify you, collect payment, and let you be the first to read your donation. Other readers will appreciate your thoughtfulness and you’ll receive a tax deduction.

Patrons may also contribute to the Portland Library Endowment Fund, used for high priority projects that are unable to be supported through the town’s operating budget. Contributions can be made through direct donations or through a publicly acknowledged bequest. Your gift to the Library’s Endowment Fund is a lasting legacy.

WHY ARE WE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP?
At Portland’s public library, book borrowing has increased steadily over the past year. Audio books are increasingly popular with commuters, persons with visual impairment and many other folks.  Sadly, Portland’s library has not been free to buy new books or recordings for several months, due to a budget freeze.

Donations received have helped us to provide for some new books. Plans to apply state grant money and donations during the fiscal year beginning in July will be used to ensure that some new materials are available despite a large reduction to our budget. However, these temporary funding sources will provide only a portion of the $37,000 that we have lost in Town operating budget reductions. And state grants will likely be suspended in the upcoming state budget and our donation funds may be diminished.

Without increased donations, the Library will not be able to update the collection that includes books on health, occupational, and consumer information. We will not effectively provide for a variety of subjects to support formal and informal learning and leisure activities.
